Giveaway Caption Templates You Can Copy and Adapt

Notepad and phone with sticky notes and small gift boxes

Writing a giveaway caption from scratch is surprisingly hard. You need to sound excited, explain how to enter, cover the rules, and still keep it short enough that people read it. These templates do the heavy lifting. Swap the parts in [brackets] for your own details and adjust the tone to fit your brand.

One tip before you start: put the action in the first line. Many people only read the first line or two before deciding whether to keep reading or scroll on.

Launch captions

The classic comment-to-enter

"GIVEAWAY! We're giving away [prize] to one lucky follower. To enter, just comment below. That's it!

One entry per person. Open to [countries], [age]+. Ends [day, date, time, time zone]. Winner picked at random and contacted by DM from this account only. This giveaway isn't sponsored, endorsed or run by [platform]."

Answer a question

"Want to win [prize]? Tell us in the comments: [question, e.g. what's your go-to weekend breakfast?]

Every comment that answers counts as one entry (one per person). Closes [day, time, time zone]. We'll pick a random winner and announce them here on [day]."

Tag a friend

"Bring a friend to the party. Comment and tag someone who'd love [prize] to enter. If you win, they win too!

One entry per person. Tagging more friends doesn't add entries. Ends [date]. Full rules: [where your rules are]."

Being clear that extra tags don't add entries prevents comment sections full of repeated tags. A duplicate filter keeps it to one entry each when you draw.

Hashtag entry

"To enter, comment with #[YourHashtag] and tell us [question]. Comments without the hashtag won't count. Ends [date]."

Pick a hashtag that's short and unlikely to be misspelled. RaffleSelect's hashtag filter will only count comments that contain it.

Several winners

"[Number] winners, [number] prizes! Comment your favorite [option] to enter. We'll draw [number] winners at random on [day]. One entry per person, and one prize per winner."

Collaboration with another brand

"We've teamed up with @[partner] to give away [prize]! Comment on this post to enter. One entry per person. Open to [countries], [age]+. Ends [date]. The winner will be contacted by @[account doing the contacting] only."

Bonus entry wording

If you reward loyal customers or members with extra chances, say so openly so it doesn't look like favoritism:

"Members of our [loyalty club / Patreon / newsletter] get [number] bonus entries. Everyone else gets one entry per comment, one per person. Bonus entries are added automatically at the draw."

In RaffleSelect, bonus entries are set per username and are available from the Silver plan.

Reminder captions

Halfway

"Still time! Our [prize] giveaway closes [day]. Comment on the giveaway post to enter. Link in bio."

Last call

"Last chance! Entries for [prize] close tonight at [time, time zone]. If you've already commented, you're in. No need to enter again."

That last sentence saves you a pile of "did my comment count?" questions.

Closing caption

"Entries are now closed! Thank you to everyone who took part. We'll be picking the winner [live / on stories] at [time]. Comments posted from now on won't be counted."

Editing your original caption to add "CLOSED" at the top is also a good idea, so late visitors know.

Winner announcement captions

Simple and warm

"Congratulations to @[winner], winner of our [prize] giveaway! Picked at random from every eligible comment. @[winner], check your DMs from this account. You have [time] to reply. Thank you to everyone who entered!"

Transparent

"Our winner is @[winner]! We drew from [all comments / comments with #hashtag], one entry per person, with staff excluded. We also drew backups in case we can't reach the winner. Watch the draw in our stories."

Prize moved to a backup

"Update: we didn't hear back from our original winner within the [time] window, so the prize goes to our first backup, @[name]. Congratulations!"

Thank-you caption for everyone else

"Didn't win this time? Thank you for joining in. Your comments made our week. As a small thank-you, here's [discount code or offer] until [date]. Next giveaway coming [timeframe]."

A safety line worth adding to every caption

"We will never ask you to pay a fee, share card details or click a link to claim a prize. Watch out for fake accounts copying our name."

Copycat accounts commonly target giveaway comment sections. One sentence helps protect your followers.

These templates are a starting point, not legal advice. Rules for giveaways differ by country and state, so check what applies where you and your entrants live, and follow each platform's promotion guidelines.

Post it, then pick it

Once your caption's live and entries are in, use the matching tool to pick your winner: Instagram, Facebook, YouTube or TikTok.
