Running a Joint Giveaway with Another Brand

Two gift boxes tied together between two phones showing comments

A joint giveaway is simple on paper: two brands put up a prize together, both promote it, and both audiences get a chance to win. In practice, the giveaways that go smoothly are the ones where the partners agreed on the boring details before anyone posted anything.

This guide walks through the conversations to have, in the order you'll need them.

Step 1: Pick a partner whose audience overlaps, but isn't the same

The best partners sell something different to similar people. A yoga studio and a smoothie bar. A bookshop and a candle maker. A wedding photographer and a florist. Your followers would plausibly care about their products, and theirs about yours, but you're not competing for the same purchase.

Before you reach out, look at the other brand's comments, not just their follower count. Are real people talking to them? Do they reply? A smaller account with an engaged community is usually a better partner than a big one with silent posts.

Step 2: Agree on the basics in writing

It doesn't need to be a contract, but a shared document or an email thread that both sides confirm saves a lot of awkwardness later. Cover these points:

  • The prize. What each brand contributes, its value, and who ships what.
  • Dates and times. Start, end and draw time, with a time zone.
  • Where it runs. One shared post (for example an Instagram collab post), or a post on each brand's account.
  • How to enter. The exact action, word for word, so both posts say the same thing.
  • Eligibility. Age, countries, and whether staff of either brand are excluded.
  • Who runs the draw and who contacts the winner.
  • What happens if the winner doesn't respond. Agree on a deadline and on picking substitutes.
  • Data. Who, if anyone, gets the winner's address, and that it's only used to ship the prize.

Step 3: Choose your entry setup

There are two common ways to structure a joint giveaway, and each has trade-offs.

SetupHow it worksGood for
One shared postA single post appears on both accounts (for example an Instagram collab post), and all comments land in one place.Simplicity. One link to draw from, one set of comments.
A post on each accountEach brand posts separately, and entries from both posts are combined for the draw.Brands on different platforms, or when each wants the post in its own style.

If you go with separate posts, you need a way to pool the entries fairly. RaffleSelect's multi-network option combines entries from several posts, even across Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and TikTok, into one draw. It's part of the Platinum plan, which also has no comment limit.

Think about whether someone who comments on both posts should get two entries. Either answer can be fine; the important thing is to state it in the rules. If it's one entry per person, the duplicate filter takes care of it, as long as the person uses the same username on both posts. Usernames often differ across platforms, so for a cross-platform giveaway it's simpler to allow one entry per post.

Step 4: Make the rules consistent

Nothing confuses entrants faster than two posts with slightly different instructions. Write the caption once, share it with your partner, and both paste it in. Mention both accounts in each post so people can see it's a genuine collaboration and not an impersonation.

If your rules exclude staff and family of both brands, collect those usernames from each other ahead of time and add them to a block list (available from the Silver plan) so they're automatically left out of the draw.

As always, this is general guidance and not legal advice. Check the rules where both businesses operate, and follow each platform's promotion guidelines.

Step 5: Run the draw together

A joint draw is a nice excuse for a joint live stream or a split-screen reveal. If that's too much coordination, have one brand record the draw and share the video with the other. Either way, both partners should see the result at the same time, so neither has to take the other's word for it.

Pick a substitute or two at the same time. If the winner can't be reached by your agreed deadline, you can move straight to the next person without arguing about a redraw.

Step 6: Follow up as a team

After the winner is confirmed, both brands should post the announcement, ideally with the same winner image so the story is consistent. Then compare notes: which posts drove comments, how many new followers each side gained, and whether you'd team up again. A good partnership often turns into a recurring one, like a seasonal giveaway each year.

Once you and your partner have agreed on the details, you can pick the winner from a single post on the RaffleSelect home page, or combine both posts into one draw with multi-network on Platinum.
