TikTok Comment Giveaways: How to Pick a Winner Fairly

TikTok giveaways can pull in a lot of comments quickly, especially if the video gets picked up beyond your usual followers. That's exciting, but it also means a noisy comment section full of replies, emoji, tags and the occasional spam account. Picking fairly from all that takes a bit of planning.
This guide is organized around the questions you'll face at each stage.
What makes TikTok different?
A few things set TikTok apart from other platforms when it comes to comment giveaways:
- Reach beyond followers. Videos can be shown to people who don't follow you. Your entrants may include many first-time viewers.
- Short attention. Viewers may not read a long caption. Your entry instructions need to be in the video itself.
- Busy comment threads. Replies and conversations pile up fast.
- Younger audiences. Think carefully about minimum age requirements, especially for prizes that aren't suitable for everyone.
How should people enter?
Keep it to one action. On TikTok, the best entry is usually a single comment that answers a simple prompt:
- "Comment which color you'd pick."
- "Comment your go-to order."
- "Comment the emoji that matches your mood today." (Simple, but harder to verify, so consider requiring a word or hashtag too.)
Say the instructions out loud in the video and put them as on-screen text. Repeat them in the caption with the closing date and a link or pointer to full rules.
What rules should you set?
At a minimum, cover:
- How to enter, and whether it's one entry per person
- The closing date and time, with time zone
- Minimum age and where you can ship
- How the winner will be contacted, and that you'll never ask for money
- How long the winner has to respond
TikTok has its own guidelines for promotions, and giveaway rules vary by country. This is general guidance, not legal advice, so check the platform's rules and your local requirements.
How do you keep the draw fair?
Once entries close, go to the TikTok giveaway page and load the comments from your video. Then apply your rules with the right settings:
One entry per person
Turn on the duplicate filter. TikTok commenters often post several times, reply to others, or come back later. The filter makes sure each account counts once, so the person who commented twelve times has the same chance as the person who commented once.
Only real entries
If your rules required a hashtag or keyword, use the hashtag filter so only matching comments are included. This is especially useful on TikTok, where many comments are casual reactions rather than entries.
No insiders
Use the block list (Silver and above) to exclude your own account, team members, and anyone helping you run the giveaway.
Backups ready
Choose your number of winners and add substitutes. If your winner doesn't reply, you can go straight to the next person.
After filtering, every eligible entry has an equal chance. That's the sentence you'll use in your announcement.
What if you get more comments than expected?
Check how many comments your video has against your plan before the draw. Free loads up to 600 comments, Silver up to 2,000, Gold up to 5,000, and Platinum has no limit. If a video takes off, it's better to upgrade for the month than to draw from part of the comments. Every entrant should have the chance your rules promised. Plans and prices are on the pricing page.
How do you show the draw was fair?
TikTok is a video platform, so make the draw a video. Screen record the draw and post it as a follow-up. On Gold and Platinum, a countdown before the reveal and your branding on the result make it feel like part of your content rather than an admin task. On any plan, save the winner certificate and show it at the end of the video or pin it in the comments of the original post.
Follow-up videos also reach people who never saw the original, which can be useful for the next giveaway.
How do you contact the winner safely?
Reply to the winning comment and, if possible, message the winner from your official account. Tell them how to claim and by when. Then, in your announcement, remind everyone that you'll only contact winners from your real account and never ask for payment, card details or passwords. Fake "you won" messages are common on busy giveaways, and a clear warning protects your followers.
A quick checklist
- Entry instructions said in the video and shown on screen
- Closing time, eligibility and contact method in the caption or pinned comment
- Duplicate filter on, hashtag filter if required, insiders blocked
- Winners and substitutes drawn together
- Draw recorded, certificate saved, scam warning posted
