Picking a TikTok Winner When the Comments Are Pouring In

Phone with streaming comment bubbles next to a selection wheel

Few things feel better than watching a giveaway video catch on. The views climb, the comment counter keeps ticking, and then a small wave of panic arrives: how do you pick one fair winner out of all of that?

TikTok giveaways can move fast. A video that sits quietly for a day can suddenly get pushed to a wider audience, and comments arrive from people who have never seen your account before. That is great for reach, but it means you need a plan for closing entries, cleaning up the list and drawing a winner without second-guessing yourself. This guide walks through that plan.

First, decide when the giveaway actually ends

When comments are pouring in, the temptation is to wait "just a bit longer". Don't. A busy video is exactly when a clear end time matters most, because people will keep commenting long after you meant to stop.

  • State the end date and time in the caption and on screen. Include the time zone. "Ends Sunday at 8pm Eastern" leaves no room for argument.
  • Pin a comment that repeats the deadline. Pinned comments are often the first thing viewers read.
  • Stick to it. If you move the deadline, say so publicly and explain why. Silent changes are what make followers suspicious.

Once the deadline passes, run the draw reasonably soon. The longer you wait, the more late comments pile up and the harder it is to explain which entries counted.

Expect more noise than usual

A viral giveaway attracts a mix of genuine fans, curious passers-by and accounts that only exist to enter giveaways or spam. You will also see the same person commenting again and again, sometimes dozens of times, hoping to boost their odds.

None of this is a disaster. It just means you shouldn't pick a winner by scrolling and pointing. Use filters so the rules you wrote are the rules that get applied.

The duplicate filter

If your rules say one entry per person, switch on RaffleSelect's duplicate filter. It counts each account once, no matter how many times they commented. This is the single most important setting for a busy TikTok post, because heavy commenters would otherwise have a much bigger chance than everyone else.

The hashtag filter

Asking entrants to include a specific hashtag or word is a simple way to separate real entries from general chatter like "love this!" or questions about your product. The hashtag filter only counts comments that contain the hashtag you choose. If you plan to use it, say so clearly in the rules before the giveaway starts, not after.

The block list

On paid plans from Silver up, a block list lets you exclude named accounts. Use it for your own team, collaborators, family members and anyone your rules say isn't eligible. If you spot obvious spam accounts while reviewing comments, you can add them here too, as long as your rules allow you to exclude entries that break them.

Check that your plan covers the comment count

Each RaffleSelect plan loads a different number of comments:

PlanComments loaded
FreeUp to 600
Silver ($5/month)Up to 2,000
Gold ($12/month)Up to 5,000
Platinum ($40/month)Unlimited

If your video has more comments than your plan loads, not every entry will be in the draw. For a giveaway that took off, glance at the comment count before you start and choose a plan that covers it. You can see the full comparison on the pricing page.

Pick a winner and backups at the same time

With a big audience, there is a good chance your first winner turns out to be an ineligible account, a spam profile, or someone who never replies. Rather than running a second draw later, pick substitutes in the same draw. They are backup winners chosen at the same moment, in order, so if the first winner doesn't work out you simply move to the next name.

Mention in your rules how long a winner has to respond before you move on to a substitute. A few days is common; whatever you choose, be consistent.

Make the reveal part of the content

A busy giveaway has an audience waiting for the result, so treat the announcement as another video rather than an afterthought.

  1. Screen-record the draw. Show the filters you used and the result appearing.
  2. Use the countdown. On Gold and Platinum plans, a countdown animation plays before the winner appears, which gives your reveal video a natural moment of suspense.
  3. Share the winner certificate. The winner certificate is a shareable image of the result that you can post or pin, so people who missed the video can still see the outcome.
  4. Thank everyone. Most people who entered didn't win. A quick thank-you and a hint about your next giveaway keeps them around.

What not to do with a busy post

  • Don't hand-pick a "favorite comment" if you promised a random draw.
  • Don't quietly delete comments to shrink the list. If entries break the rules, use filters and explain your criteria.
  • Don't announce the winner only in a reply buried under thousands of comments. Post it somewhere people will see it.
  • Don't contact winners from a second account. Message from your main account so nobody mistakes you for an impersonator.

A quick recap

Set a firm deadline, turn on the duplicate filter, use a hashtag filter if your rules require one, block ineligible accounts, check your plan covers the comment count, and pick substitutes alongside your winner. Then turn the draw into a reveal your audience actually wants to watch.
